The Safeguard of Photographic Patrimony
Arab Images Foundation is a unique company in its genre and a leader in the domain of photographs restoration, preservation and digital images archiving in the Arab World.
Since photography was invented in 1839 numerous different processes have been used to make photographs. The ageing processes of the products of each system are many and varied, and depend upon the chemical processes used: some decompose, some become discoloured, and nearly all are sensitive to temperature and humidity.
Providing and managing projects: restoration and preservation of photographic collections.
Creating and cataloguing the digital images. Distribution of digitised photographic collections on the network.
Drawing up a description of the state of photographic archives, in order to formulate a policy for their preservation.
Restoration and Conservation
The restoration of photographic documents is a recent skill, which observes the same methodology as is used in the treatment applied for the preservation of cultural assets. The prints will be mounted under mat-boards and conserved in a portfolio-box. (All the material to be used is acid and alkaline free.)
Images Management System
The digitisation will be done once at high resolution to response to all what users need. Since that, the images will be easily accessible, and will permit a better conservation of the original photographs, because it'll be less manipulated.
A standard database system will be used for cataloguing and distribution of the collection; we can also offer you a complete solution for managing and archiving the digital images. The metadata will be in two languages, Arabic and English.
